Return of the Trolley!
The Gig Harbor Trolley returns July 1 and will run Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the months of July and August. Hop on the Trolley and head over to the Thursday Farmer’s Markets at Skansie Brother’s Park or grab your friends and head uptown or downtown for some weekend shopping and dining!
This year’s stand-alone trolley service will run as Route 101. Note that regular bus fares will be charged. Youth ride free and fares are $2 or less for other riders. Details can be found here: https://www.piercetransit.org/pt-trolley/
The city will continue to work with Pierce Transit on the full return of the Trolley in summer 2024. Full Trolley service is not available this year due to unprecedented staffing shortages experienced by Pierce Transit.
UPDATE IN SPRING 2023:
The Trolley is a wonderful component to our city’s summertime activities and is beloved by so many. Unfortunately, Pierce Transit reports they are still experiencing unprecedented staffing shortages that will prevent the full return of the Gig Harbor Trolley for 2023. However, City Administrator Knutson has continued to proactively collaborate with Pierce Transit staff in support of this effort, and I am happy to report that the Pierce Transit trolley will run on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the summer!
Similar to last year, the trolley will be a trolley-themed wrapped bus, as Pierce Transit is still working toward ADA adjustments required for actual trolley cars. Providing this service on Thursday will serve our community on busy Farmer’s Market days, and Saturday service will assist with tourism-related travel. The trolley makes additional stops within our city than the current Route 100 and runs more frequently.
