Peninsula Metropolitan Park District (PenMet Parks) Executive Director Terry Lee announced that he will retire May 31, 2018.
Lee has led PenMet Parks since 2010, making him the longest-serving executive director in the District’s history.
Having lived in the Gig Harbor area for more than three decades, as Executive Director for PenMet Parks, and past Pierce County Council representative Lee has become a true icon of the community in Gig Harbor and around greater Pierce County.
Lee has led many successes for the District in his tenure. With a successful levy lid lift reflecting District support from the community under Lee’s leadership; his direction and dedication have provided the transfer of Pierce County Parks/Properties, made way for first of their kind Dog Parks in the area, the provision of the Indoor Soccer Center and construction of a new maintenance facility at Sehmel Homestead Park.
Under Lee’s leadership, the District provided turf infields to the community and oversaw the merger of Peninsula Athletic Association, providing much needed recreational resources. One of several goals Lee had for Peninsula Metropolitan Park District was to “...take parks and recreation to the next level. Here on the peninsula.” In working with other boards, community members and organizations, Lee has shown true leadership in the development of Peninsula Metropolitan Park District.
The District' Board would like to express sincere gratitude to Terry for his service to our community, not only as Executive Director for PenMet Parks, but in all of the roles he has played a keynote in. Community service is in his blood and we look forward to a continued relationship with Terry in service to our community.
The Board will be introducing two finalists to fill the role of Executive Director of Peninsula Metropolitan Park District next week. We will be inviting our staff and community to meet these two exceptional candidates in the very near future. Completing the process to hire the next Executive Director is expected sometime in June.
